New Rockyview Playground Officially Open

Livingstone Shire Council is delighted to announce the completion of the new community-driven playground at Dick Olive Park in Rockyview, now officially open for families to enjoy.

Designed in close collaboration with the community, the vibrant new space features a climbing dome, an all-abilities group swing, a quad seesaw, and a shaded picnic area—creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for children and families alike.

Recreation and Culture Committee Co-Chair, Councillor Andrea Friend, said the finished playground is a fantastic outcome for the community and a testament to the power of public input.

“This project was shaped by the ideas and feedback we received from residents during the 2023 consultation, and we’re thrilled to see it brought to life,” Councillor Friend said.

“We know how important it is for families to have access to safe, engaging, and inclusive recreational spaces, and this new playground delivers exactly that.”

Councillor Friend thanked the community for their patience and enthusiasm during the construction process.

“We appreciate the community’s patience while works were underway and are so pleased to now welcome families back to Dick Olive Park to enjoy this new space,” she said.

“The feedback we received about the need for shade and picnic areas was clear, and we’re proud to have delivered on those requests.”

The playground also incorporates sustainable and innovative materials, including Takura Engineered Softfall, a clean, natural product made from pine wood—demonstrating Council’s commitment to environmentally responsible design.

“This playground is not only fun and functional but also reflects our dedication to sustainability and long-term community wellbeing,” Councillor Friend added.

Senator for Queensland, Nita Green said it was pleasing to see this project delivered, with support from the Australian Government.

“Playgrounds are spaces for communities and families to come together, I hope that the Rockyview community use it and enjoy it for years to come.”

The project was made possible through funding from the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

Federal Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry said the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program has been essential in providing new amenities for communities.

"Safe and family friendly spaces for the heart of every community. I'm proud to have delivered the funding to provide this wonderful space for the Rockyview community to enjoy for years to come."

Council invites residents and visitors to explore the new playground and thanks the Rockyview community once again for helping to shape—and patiently wait for—this exciting new addition to Dick Olive Park.
