Council Reaffirms Support for Yeppoon Senior Citizens Association
Livingstone Shire Council is aware of recent social media commentary suggesting the Yeppoon Senior Citizens Association has been displaced from the Town Hall due to the venue being allocated to another group. This information is incorrect.
Council has been working closely and proactively with the Association since being advised that their previous premises at the TAFE site were to be sold. Since that time, Council has explored several potential new venues with the group—including the Yeppoon Basketball Stadium—and has continued to support them throughout the transition.
To support this transition, Council has resolved to:
- Provide free, regular access to the Town Hall (where existing bookings allow) for the next 12 months,
- Construct a custom music storage cupboard,
- Fund relocation and storage costs for one year, and
- Allow flexible use of the hall beyond standard terms and conditions.
Council is also reinforcing that respectful behaviour is expected of all hall users towards staff and other community groups.
The Town Hall is a highly valued, shared community venue booked more than 230 days a year. Council is committed to ensuring fair and equitable access for all users, including the more than 120 community and sporting groups it supports across the Shire.
