Foundations Laid for the Capricorn Coast Brian Dorey OAM Aquatic Centre

Livingstone Shire Council is pleased to announce the successful completion of two concrete pours at the Capricorn Coast Brian Dorey OAM Aquatic Centre site—officially laying the structural foundations for what will become one of the region’s most significant and eagerly anticipated community facilities.

The two carefully planned pours took place early in the morning to ensure ideal conditions for setting and long-term strength, with approximately 300 cubic metres of concrete placed across the two pours.

Mayor Adam Belot acknowledged the achievement as a major step forward in the delivery of the aquatic centre and extended Council’s appreciation to nearby residents and project partners.

“Laying the foundation means the project is now well and truly rising out of the ground,” Mayor Belot said.

“We are grateful to our residents for their understanding during the early works, and to the Australian Government for their crucial funding support to help bring this vision to life.”

“The concrete pours required a major logistical effort involving skilled contractors, suppliers, and technical experts. We thank everyone involved in reaching this important construction milestone.”

With the site located close to nearby homes, Council and contractors followed strict noise management protocols throughout the works, with residents being notified in advance.

The project has faced weather-related challenges earlier in the year, but weather permitting, is anticipated for completion at the end of 2025. Once finished, the Capricorn Coast Brian Dorey OAM Aquatic Centre will deliver a modern, inclusive, and accessible space for all ages—featuring year-round swimming opportunities and expanded health and fitness programs.

The project was made possible with $13 million in funding from Australian Government, reinforcing a shared commitment to enhancing community infrastructure.

Council will continue to provide updates as the next stages of construction progress.
