Livingstone Shire Council proudly hosted a special event today at Yeppoon Library, unveiling Why Elle Spoke Up, a powerful new children’s book by author and advocate Lili Greer, as part of Domestic and Family Violence Awareness Month.

The book aims to help children understand their emotions and reinforces the importance of seeking help when needed.

The event welcomed students from local primary schools who listened as Lili Greer gave an overview of the importance of Domestic Family Violence awareness and Councillor Friend shared the moving story of Elle, a young girl who finds the strength to speak up about her experiences.

Communities and Recreation Committee Co-Chair, Councillor Andrea Friend, praised the initiative and the impact it can have on young readers.

“This is more than just a book, it’s a message of hope and strength,” Cr Friend said.

“By placing it in the hands of children, we’re giving them a voice and reminding them they are seen, heard, and valued.

“We’re deeply grateful to Lili for sharing her story with our community.”

As part of initiative, copies of Why Elle Spoke Up will be distributed to primary schools across the Shire and have also been made available at the Yeppoon Library.

Author Lili Greer, whose advocacy is inspired by her late mother, Tina Greer, said she hopes the book will be a source of courage and comfort.

“Every child deserves to feel safe,” she said. “This book is about empowering children to speak up and know they’re not alone.”
