Livingstone Shire Council Celebrates Neighbourhood Centres Week

Livingstone Shire Council, in proud partnership with Neighbourhood Centres Queensland (NCQ), is celebrating Neighbourhood Centres Week recognising the vital role community centres play in connecting and supporting our region.

To kick off the celebrations, a promotional pop-up event will take place at Yeppoon Central Shopping Centre on Wednesday 14 May. Community members are encouraged to drop by, meet the team, and discover the wide range of services and opportunities available through the Yeppoon Community Centre.

Then on Friday 16 May, Council staff and community volunteers will distribute information packages at Food Relief Capricorn Coast locations in Yeppoon and Emu Park. These packs will provide valuable resources and insights into how the Community Centre supports residents across the region.

Recreation and Culture Committee Co- Chair Lance Warcon said the Community Centre is a welcoming space for all members of the community.

“Our Community Centre in James Street provides a hub for connection, learning, and support,” Cr Warcon said.

“Residents can access everything from knitting and art groups to social computing and writing groups, as well as access to visiting services and emergency relief.

“Our Community Centre is more than just a place—it’s a network of support and a space for people to connect, share skills, and build resilience together.

“We’re proud to celebrate this week and shine a light on the impact the Community Centre has in our local area.”

With over 150 Neighbourhood and Community Centres across the state, Neighbourhood Centres Queensland represents the largest community-led infrastructure in Queensland. As the peak body, NCQ supports centres like Yeppoon’s to grow their impact through collaboration, capacity building, and advocacy at all levels of government.
