Update on Yeppoon Aquatic Centre Upgrades

Yeppoon Aquatic Centre Cooee Bay will be unavailable to patrons from mid-year as planned upgrades get underway.

With $13 million funding made available by the Australian Government, local architect Brian Hooper is working with Push Architects to finalise plans for the Cooee Bay facility.

According to Livingstone Shire CEO, Cale Dendle, the funding is intended to replace the main 50 metre pool, including the filtration plant, and provide new amenities and surrounds.

“We are very grateful to the Australian Government for this funding offer, but we also need to be realistic about how far $13 million will stretch,” Mr Dendle said.

“Anyone who has been involved in public pool projects will know how expensive they can be.”

Council staff will be working with pool users in the coming months to minimise disruption caused by the pool’s closure which could be anywhere up to 18 months.
