Livingstone Shire Council is proud to announce the commencement of the Taroomball Trunk Sewer Infrastructure Upgrade Project, a major investment aimed at strengthening essential services, supporting future growth, and enhancing wastewater management.

This $8.5 million project, made possible by the Queensland State Government’s 2024-28 Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program, will significantly improve sewerage infrastructure in the Taroomball and Taranganba catchment areas, ensuring greater reliability and efficiency for residents and businesses.

Mayor Adam Belot emphasised the importance of the upgrade for both current and future residents.

“This investment ensures our sewerage network is future-proofed for continued growth, providing reliable services for our community while also supporting business and tourism,” Mayor Belot said.

“We are committed to delivering high-quality infrastructure projects that benefit residents now and into the future.”

Keppel MP Nigel Hutton said he is pleased to see money invested in vital infrastructure works to support current and future growth for the region.

"With the rapid growth experienced by the region in recent years and the expected population we are predicted to experience in coming years, it is imperative we invest in these integral projects to continue to appropriately serve our community, " Mr Hutton said.

"The Crisafulli Government are committed to working in partnership with local councils to ensure critical infrastructure that supports the growth of our communities is built across Keppel!”

Infrastructure Committee Co-Chair Councillor Rhodes Watson highlighted how the project aligns with Council’s long-term strategy for population growth and economic development.

“We are really pleased to see this project come to fruition to accommodate the needs of our growing community,” Cr Watson said.

“With this growth comes the responsibility to carefully manage environmental sensitivities while delivering critical infrastructure projects.

“Given the proximity to tidal creeks and low-lying marine environments, environmental considerations have been a key focus in planning this project.

“Council will work closely with the Contractor to ensure best-practice sustainability measures are implemented throughout construction.”

The upgrade includes several key components to enhance sewerage services:

  • Construction of a new Tanby Sewerage Pump Station to modernise the system.
  • Installation of new gravity and rising sewer mains to improve sewage flow efficiency.
  • Upgrades to the Carige Boulevard Pump Station to boost capacity and performance.
  • Decommissioning of the outdated Tanby Road Pump Station to streamline operations.

Council has received the maximum approved subsidy amount of $7.384 million under the 2024-28 Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program.

Residents and businesses will be kept informed throughout the project, with updates available on the Livingstone Shire Council website.
