The Capricorn Coast Multicultural Group, in collaboration with Livingstone Shire Council, invites residents to come together and celebrate cultural diversity at a special event marking Harmony Week (18-24 March).

Join us this Sunday, 24 March 2024, from 11:30 am to 3:00 pm at The Garage, Yeppoon Community Centre, 80 John Street.

Nini Sielaff, Coordinator of the Capricorn Coast Multicultural Group, said we’re marking this year’s national Harmony Week, held each year during March, with an event that showcases our community’s inclusive spirit.

"We want to celebrate our differences and create a sense of belonging for everyone," said Nini.

"Our event is to remind the community why our cultural diversity is one of Livingstone Shire's greatest assets, and we are stronger because of it."

The festivities will feature a vibrant lineup of activities, including folk dance workshops. Attendees can also indulge in a cultural food exchange, savouring flavours from around the world, and don't miss out on the chance to win exciting prizes through raffles and lucky door draws.

"We want everyone, no matter who they are or where they're from, to come along and have fun and appreciate that our differences make our community a great place to live," added Nini.

A Council spokesperson said this event embodies the spirit of Harmony Week, which coincides with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

"We encourage everyone to join us in celebrating our rich cultural tapestry and promoting unity within our community," said the Council spokesperson.

Residents are encouraged to capture and share their Harmony Week celebrations on social media using #harmonyweek and #everyonebelongs.
