Canal Creek Memorial Service
Attend the Canal Creek Memorial Service to honour the 31 United States and Australian Armed Services personnel who lost their lives in a tragic aircraft crash on 19 December 1943.
On 19 December 1943, a Douglas C-47 aircraft on a routine flight from Townsville to Archerfield encountered mechanical failure near Rockhampton. The aircraft’s left engine caught fire, leading to a devastating crash at Canal Creek Station. Tragically, all 31 passengers and crew aboard lost their lives.
The Canal Creek War Memorial stands as a tribute to these servicemen and women, ensuring their sacrifice is remembered by future generations.
Join us as we honour their memory at this special commemorative service.
