Advocacy
Working together to secure a stronger future for Livingstone
Livingstone Shire is growing, creating new opportunities while increasing demand for housing, infrastructure, services and investment.
Many of the projects and initiatives needed to support our community's future require funding, policy decisions or investment from the Queensland and Australian Governments, as well as partnerships with industry and other organisations.
Council's advocacy helps ensure Livingstone's priorities are heard by decision-makers and that our region is well positioned to secure the support and investment needed to deliver them.
Through evidence-based advocacy, Council builds relationships, presents the case for investment and works with government, industry and community partners to progress projects that will deliver lasting benefits for Livingstone.
Our Priorities
Council's Strategic Priorities Document outlines the key projects and initiatives that will help shape Livingstone's future. It provides an important foundation for Council's advocacy and investment attraction activities.
Our priorities reflect the infrastructure, services and investment needed to support growth, strengthen our economy and maintain the qualities that make Livingstone a great place to live.
Our advocacy priorities include:
- Transport and infrastructure – improving connectivity and delivering the infrastructure needed to support growth.
- Housing and liveability – increasing housing supply and ensuring communities have the services and infrastructure they need.
- Tourism and economic development – unlocking investment and strengthening Livingstone as a leading regional destination.
- Community infrastructure and services – ensuring essential services and facilities keep pace with population growth.
- Strategic industries and employment – creating opportunities for business, industry and high-value local employment.
- Major transformational projects – progressing projects that can deliver significant long-term benefits for Livingstone and the broader region.
Council's priorities can evolve as circumstances change, new opportunities emerge and government funding programs become available.

Blueprint Livingstone
Blueprint Livingstone is Council's initiative for identifying and progressing transformational projects that go beyond business as usual and have the potential to deliver significant long-term benefits for Livingstone.
Guided by the Blueprint 2030 Economic Growth and Investment Strategy, Blueprint Livingstone helps Council bring together government, industry, investors and the community to progress projects that support growth, strengthen our economy and enhance liveability.
Many Blueprint Livingstone projects require support, funding or partnerships beyond Council's direct capacity. Advocacy is therefore an important part of progressing these projects from opportunity to delivery.

How Council advocates
Council takes a proactive approach to advocacy, working directly with decision-makers and partners to progress Livingstone's priorities.
This can include:
Government engagement
Meeting with local Members of Parliament, Ministers, government agencies and senior decision-makers to present the case for investment and support.
Funding submissions
Preparing submissions and applications that demonstrate the need, benefits and strategic alignment of priority projects with government programs and funding opportunities.
Strategic partnerships
Working with businesses, industry, regional organisations, community groups and other levels of government to build shared support for projects and initiatives.
Evidence and business cases
Using research, economic data, community needs and project information to demonstrate why investment is needed and the benefits it can deliver.
Parliamentary and election advocacy
Taking opportunities during State and Australian Government election cycles, budget processes and policy reviews to highlight Livingstone's priorities and seek commitments.
Public awareness
Communicating the importance of major projects and regional priorities to build community understanding and support.
Regional collaboration
Working with neighbouring councils, regional bodies and peak industry organisations where there is a shared interest in achieving stronger outcomes for the region.
Measuring our success
Advocacy outcomes can take time, particularly for major infrastructure projects and policy changes. Council measures success through outcomes such as government funding and project commitments, progress towards delivery, changes to government policies and programs, new strategic partnerships, and increased investment and development opportunities. Success is not only about securing funding—it is also about building strong relationships, raising awareness of Livingstone's priorities and creating opportunities for our region's future.
