Food Safety
Food Safety for Businesses
Safe food can be defined as food that does not cause adverse health effects following consumption. Consumers trust that the food they purchase will be safe and of the highest quality expected.
Livingstone Shire Council is responsible for licensing and monitoring food businesses in accordance with the Food Act 2006 and the Food Safety Standards. These requirements help ensure food businesses operate safely and protect the community from food that is unsafe or unsuitable to eat.
All licensed food businesses must comply with food safety requirements, including maintaining appropriate records, ensuring staff have suitable food safety skills and knowledge, and managing risks associated with food handling activities.
For more information, visit the Queensland Government Food Act 2006 and Food Standards Australia New Zealand websites.
Food Safety Records and Templates
Maintaining accurate food safety records is an important part of operating a compliant food business.
Livingstone Shire Council has developed a Food Safety Record Book to help food businesses record essential food safety activities, including temperature monitoring, cleaning and sanitising, staff training, pest control and other routine checks.
