Strong turnout for forum signals confidence in Shire's future

More than 150 developers, investors, builders, planners, and community stakeholders came together this morning for Livingstone Shire Council’s second Blueprint to Success: Liveable Communities & Development Insights forum, highlighting strong interest in the region’s future.
Mayor Adam Belot said the strong attendance reflects the level of interest and confidence in Livingstone Shire as one of Queensland’s fastest-growing regional areas outside the southeast corner.
“Livingstone is experiencing unprecedented growth, and it’s critical we bring industry, government and the community together to share insights, align priorities and plan for the future,” Mayor Belot said.
The forum also provided the platform for Council’s Economic Development unit to officially launch its new Investment Prospectus and feature video, alongside a refreshed brand identity.
Mayor Belot said the transition from Discover Capricorn Coast to Invest Capricorn Coast reflects a strategic shift in focus for the region.
“We don’t need people to discover us anymore, our region is well and truly on the map,” he said.
“Now, the priority is attracting the right investment to keep pace with our growth, create local jobs and deliver the infrastructure and opportunities our community needs.”
Mayor Belot also acknowledged Council CEO Alastair Dawson’s presentation on the fuel crisis, noting its significance at a national level while reinforcing the importance of local focus.
“The fuel crisis is a national issue and it’s something we’re all watching closely,” he said.
“But at the local level, it’s important we hold our nerve — continue to plan, continue to invest, and get on with the business of growing our region and supporting our community.”
Attendees heard from a range of expert speakers, including economic insights from Marcus Brown of Bull & Bear Economics, updates on investment and planning from Council officers, and discussions around creating liveable, sustainable communities.
A Q&A panel featuring Mayor Belot, Member for Keppel Nigel Hutton MP, and Marcus Brown provided further opportunity for attendees to engage directly on key issues impacting the region.
Mr Hutton said collaboration between all levels of government and industry is key to managing growth effectively.
“By working together, we can ensure Livingstone continues to thrive while maintaining the lifestyle and character that makes this region so special,” he said.
Mayor Belot said the forum plays an important role in supporting informed decision-making as Council progresses key strategic work, including its Planning Scheme Review.
“As our population grows, so too does the need to carefully plan infrastructure, housing, services and community spaces,” he said.
“These sessions ensure we’re not planning in isolation – we’re working collaboratively with those who are actively shaping our region on the ground.”
All proceeds from the event will be donated to iCare, supporting people in need across the Livingstone community.
The next Blueprint to Success forum will be held later this year, with details to be announced.
