School holidays bring fun, creativity and adventure to Livingstone

Livingstone Shire Council’s popular school holiday program is back this September, with two weeks of free and low-cost activities and events for children, young people and families across the region.
Running from Friday 18 September to Sunday 4 October, the program offers a mix of live entertainment, creativity, sport and hands-on experiences, with activities catering to a wide range of ages.
Mayor Adam Belot said Council’s school holiday programs continue to be well attended, with families making the most of the opportunity to enjoy affordable activities close to home.
“The school holidays are a great time to get out, try something new and spend time together, and we’re pleased to offer such a varied program for our community,” Mayor Belot said.
“There’s something for everyone, from high-energy performances and creative workshops to activities that give young people the chance to learn, explore and connect with others.
“It’s also fantastic to see local community groups and organisations getting involved and helping bring these opportunities to life.”
The Box Show by Junkyard Beats is one of the major highlights, bringing its award-winning blend of drumming, dance, circus and comedy to the Capricorn Coast. A Weekly Winner – Best of Kids and Family – Adelaide Fringe (2026), the high-energy show transforms household objects into an electrifying symphony of rhythm and laughter.
Young creatives can join award-winning and bestselling children’s author Niki Foreman, author of The Umbrella, for Stories and Sketches, exploring how tiny ideas can become big stories through characters, words and imagination.
Recreation and Culture Portfolio Co-Lead, Councillor Andrea Friend, said the program has a fantastic mix of familiar favourites as well as opportunities for families to discover something a little different.
“From building sand sculptures on Yeppoon Main Beach to seeing radio-controlled aircraft take to the skies with the Capricorn Radio Control Aviators Club, there are plenty of ways to get out and experience something new,” Cr Friend said.
“The Quizzical Mr Jeff will bring interactive comedy and plenty of surprises, while our Livingstone’s Got Talent finalists will take to the stage for a spectacular finale showcasing the incredible talent of local young people.”
The popular sand sculpting workshops will return to Yeppoon Main Beach, giving budding artists the chance to create with sand as families head back to the beach for the warmer months.
The program also features a range of other activities and events for different ages and interests, including opportunities to get active, get creative and connect with the local community.
Most activities are free, with tickets required for The Box Show and The Quizzical Mr Jeff. Some free activities also require bookings due to limited places.
