A major milestone has been reached in the transformation of South Lammermoor, with the new Williamson Creek (West) pedestrian bridge spectacularly craned into place this week.

The installation marks another significant step in Livingstone Shire Council's long-term investment in safer, more connected infrastructure for the growing coastal community.

The new bridge replaces the previous pedestrian crossing and forms part of Council's ongoing commitment to the Lammermoor Beach (South) Master Plan, complementing the recently completed Clayton Road shared footpath and road safety upgrades.

Mayor Adam Belot said while the bridge installation itself was completed in a matter of minutes, it represented months of planning and construction to deliver an important piece of community infrastructure.

"Seeing the bridge lifted into place was an impressive sight and a significant milestone for this project," Mayor Belot said.

"This bridge is about much more than replacing ageing infrastructure. It's about creating safer, more accessible connections for pedestrians and cyclists and continuing to deliver on our long-term vision for South Lammermoor."

Mayor Belot said the project also demonstrated Council's commitment to supporting local businesses and jobs.

"We're proud to have local contractor Gallagher Developments delivering these works, ensuring this investment stays within our region and supports local employment and expertise."

"Council is committed to investing in infrastructure that improves everyday life for our residents while also creating opportunities for local businesses to grow and prosper."

While the bridge is now in place, final construction works, including approach connections, safety barriers and finishing works, will be completed before the bridge is reopened to the public.

Mayor Belot thanked the community for their patience during construction.

"We appreciate the community's understanding while these important works have been underway," he said.

"We're looking forward to reopening the bridge as soon as it is safe to do so and providing another high-quality active transport link for the community to enjoy."

Council will advise the community once the bridge is ready to reopen for pedestrians and cyclists.
