New Inclusive Play Equipment Opens at Appleton Park

Livingstone Shire Council has expanded inclusive play opportunities with the installation of new all-abilities equipment at Appleton Park, Yeppoon.

The upgraded playground now features an Inclusive Orbit Carousel and a Zenith Two Bay Swing, providing more opportunities for children of all ages and abilities to play, connect and enjoy the outdoors together.

Mayor Adam Belot said the new additions reflect Council's commitment to creating accessible public spaces for everyone.

"Our parks and playgrounds are places where families come together, friendships are formed and children develop through play," Mayor Belot said.

"Every child deserves the opportunity to experience the joy and benefits of play, regardless of their abilities. These new additions at Appleton Park create a more welcoming space where children can play alongside one another."

Recreation and Culture Portfolio Co-Lead Councillor Andrea Friend said the project replaced the ageing Liberty Swing, which had reached the end of its serviceable life, with equipment that delivers greater opportunities for inclusive play.

"Rather than simply replacing the Liberty Swing, we saw an opportunity to create a more inclusive play space that caters for a wider range of abilities," Cr Friend said.

"Working closely with specialist suppliers, Council's Facilities team have installed equipment that offers accessible, engaging play experiences for more children and families.

"Inclusive play is about creating spaces where children of all abilities can play together, build confidence and feel they belong, and we are proud to deliver this important upgrade for our community."

The upgraded playground is now open for families to enjoy.
