Loving Our Livingstone Seniors: A week of celebration, connection, and
Published on 05 August 2025
Livingstone Shire’s seniors are being invited to attend a jam-packed week of fun and informative activities in celebration of their contributions to the community.
Kicking off from Friday 15 August, Seniors Week 2025 is held annually, and this year’s launch will be hosted in conjunction with Council’s recurring iCare community lunch at The Community Centre gardens.
Recreation and Culture Portfolio Co-Lead, Councillor Lance Warcon, said Seniors Week 2025 was all about increasing the social connectedness of older people.
“This year’s theme is Loving our Livingstone Seniors, because it’s so important for seniors to feel connected to their communities and the important people in their lives,” Cr Warcon said.
“Our seniors deserve to feel cared for and supported if care and support are needed, and celebrated as valued community members.
“We encourage all seniors to get involved in some or all of the activities coming up in the program, which will include a lovely High Tea for the ladies, a morning of fishing and an afternoon at the Gold Class movies.
“The week will conclude with the Oak Tree 11th Annual Seniors Expo at Merv Anderson Park on 22 August.
“Come along and check out the multitude of stalls, offering information on products and services including retirement, financial, legal, health, wellbeing, travel, craft, clubs and more. It’s free to attend and anyone is welcome.
“Seniors Week provides a great opportunity to create positive community attitudes towards older people and ageing, provide opportunities for community participation, and celebrate older residents and their ongoing contribution to the Shire—whether as volunteers or in the workforce, community leaders or carers, grandparents, or advocates.
“The majority of events are free or low-cost, encouraging participation amongst all residents.
“Council would like to sincerely thank all of the agencies, service providers, community groups and organisations who have helped to make these events possible, and we look forward to celebrating with our local seniors.”
