Livingstone Shire Council is advising residents to prepare for moderate to heavy rainfall expected from Saturday and continuing across the weekend. Council is encouraging all households—particularly those in isolated and hard‑to‑reach communities—to take steps now to stay safe and well‑prepared.

Mayor Belot urges residents to prepare early and that the expected rainfall is a timely reminder for the community to review their emergency readiness.

“We know that weather can change rapidly in our region, and taking simple steps now can make all the difference,” Mayor Belot said.

“I encourage every household across Livingstone Shire to check their emergency kit, understand their local risks, and make sure they have everything they need should access become limited over the weekend.”

Mayor Belot added that residents in remote or isolated communities should take extra care.

“For those living in our more isolated areas, please ensure you have essential supplies, medications, and enough food and water to remain self‑sufficient if heavy rainfall impacts travel or access. Your safety and preparedness are our top priority.”

“We are no strangers to these systems, and with the impacts of EX-TC Koji still very fresh in our minds, it is time once again to make sure you have all the essential items you need, should this system bring moderate to heavy rainfall for an extended period of time.”

What residents should do now:

Get Ready Queensland recommends several key actions to help households stay prepared and resilient:

  • Review your household emergency plan so everyone knows what to do if conditions deteriorate. [getready.qld.gov.au]
  • Restock your emergency kit, ensuring you have torches, batteries, drinking water, non‑perishable food, first‑aid items, and important documents. [getready.qld.gov.au], [getready.qld.gov.au]
  • Top up essential medications and prescriptions, especially important for residents who may become isolated.
  • Grab extra supplies during your next shop to strengthen your emergency preparedness. [getready.qld.gov.au]
  • Stay informed through official emergency information channels and your local disaster dashboard. [getready.qld.gov.au]

With heavy rainfall comes an increased risk of flash flooding and road hazards. Residents are reminded to follow the longstanding safety message: If it’s flooded, forget it. [getready.qld.gov.au]

Council will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as the situation develops.
