Livingstone Shire Mayor Adam Belot, Blueprint Livingstone Director Graham Scott, and CEO Alastair Dawson have returned from Brisbane after a successful visit with senior Queensland Government representatives, including Premier David Crisafulli.

Mayor Belot said the visit reinforced the importance of Livingstone Shire’s priorities at the State level.

“While we were originally scheduled to meet with Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie, he was held up in Parliament, and Premier David Crisafulli personally stepped in to meet with us,” Mayor Belot said.

“It was an unexpected but very welcome opportunity, and it clearly demonstrates the Premier’s genuine interest in the future of Livingstone Shire.

“Our discussions focused on building partnerships with the State Government to manage the pressures of rapid population growth, including the urgent need to address traffic congestion along Tanby Road, increase the supply of affordable housing, and deliver the infrastructure required to support growth in our northern communities.”

Mayor Belot said tourism and economic development were also key priorities raised during the visit.

“We highlighted the importance of tourism assets such as Great Keppel Island and the Anzac Memorial Walk at Emu Park, which play a critical role in our local economy and are deeply valued by our community.”

Member for Keppel Nigel Hutton said the visit reinforced the importance of close collaboration between council and the State Government.

“Livingstone Shire is growing rapidly, and it’s critical that all levels of government are working together to ensure infrastructure keeps pace with that growth,” Mr Hutton said.

“I was pleased to be part of these discussions and to support Council in advocating for practical solutions around transport, housing and tourism that will deliver real benefits for local families and businesses.”

Member for Mirani Glen Kelly said the advocacy trip clearly demonstrated Council’s proactive approach to planning for the future.

“This visit highlighted the strong leadership being shown by Livingstone Shire Council in planning for sustainable growth,” Mr Kelly said.

“Ensuring northern communities have the infrastructure and services they need is essential, and I welcome the opportunity to continue working alongside Council to progress these priorities with the Queensland Government.”

Mayor Belot thanked the Queensland Government representatives for their time and commitment.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Premier, Deputy Premier, Ministers Ann Leahy, Andrew Powell and Brent Mickelberg, as well as Nigel Hutton MP and Glen Kelly MP, for their constructive engagement and ongoing support.”

Mayor Belot reaffirmed Council’s commitment to building strong partnerships and ongoing advocacy on behalf of the community.

“Council is steadfast in ensuring the voices of our community are heard,” he said.

“We will continue working closely with all levels of government to progress the issues that matter most to our residents.

“Our goal is sustainable and responsible growth—growth that delivers long-term benefits and protects the qualities that make Livingstone such a great place to live.”

“The Brisbane visit was an important step in securing our Shire’s future and we are proud to represent our community and to keep these conversations moving forward at the highest levels of government.”
