Junkyard Beats to turn everyday junk into extraordinary music

Livingstone Shire audiences are in for an energetic and hilarious theatrical experience when Junkyard Beats brings The Box Show to Yeppoon Town Hall on Saturday, 26 September.

Prepare to have your minds blown as four musical misfits transform everyday junk – including cardboard boxes, kitchen items, wheelie bins and plastic bags – into an electrifying symphony of beats, rhythm and creativity.

Combining high-energy drumming, dance, theatre, circus, body percussion and laugh-out-loud comedy, The Box Show proves that one person’s junk can become another person’s music.

Livingstone Shire Council Mayor Adam Belot said the performance offered a fun and engaging experience for the whole family.

“The Box Show is a fantastic opportunity for our community to experience live performance while seeing everyday objects in a completely different way,” Mayor Belot said.

“Junkyard Beats combines music, movement, and comedy to deliver a show that is entertaining and encourages us to think creatively about the things we might otherwise throw away.

“It’s a great family-friendly experience, and I encourage residents to grab their tickets and get ready for plenty of surprises,” Mayor Belot said.

Speaking in ‘Rhythmish’ – a playful language made up of rhythm and gibberish – the performers communicate through music and movement, making the show accessible to audiences of all ages.

Created by Oded Prior in 2015, Sydney and Melbourne-based Junkyard Beats has performed across Australia and internationally at major events, theatres, schools and festivals. The group is renowned for its dynamic rhythm shows, drawing inspiration from everyday life, the streets, and the junkyard.

The Box Show is directed by Nigel Turner-Carroll and written by Oded Prior and Nigel Turner-Carroll.

The project has been assisted by the Australian Government through Creative Australia, its principal arts investment and advisory body.
