Free Fun and Fitness for Young People: Council Launches New ‘Squad
Published on 28 July 2025
Looking for something fun, active, and social to do after school? Livingstone Shire Council is excited to announce the launch of Squad Goals – a brand-new sport and recreation program designed especially for young people, running from late July through to September.
Created to support local youth in staying active and connected, Squad Goals offers a fun, no-pressure way to try out a variety of sports and recreation activities in a friendly, inclusive environment. No experience or equipment needed – just bring your energy, your mates, and give it a go! Best of all, it’s completely FREE.
Recreation and Culture Committee Co-Chair, Councillor Lance Warcon, said the program aims to boost youth wellbeing through physical activity and social connection.
“Squad Goals is all about supporting our young people to stay active, build friendships, and feel a sense of belonging in their community,” Cr Warcon said.
“It’s fun, it’s free, and it’s for everyone – regardless of skill level. We want to see as many kids and teens as possible getting involved and giving something new a try.”
The 2023 Sporting Needs Analysis identified a strong demand for free and low-cost sporting opportunities for youth, based on feedback from 268 young people across the Shire.
Cr Warcon said the findings highlighted the need for more flexible, accessible programs tailored to young people’s lives.
“Young people told us they want sport to be more inclusive, social, and affordable – Squad Goals delivers exactly that.”
The program features a rotating schedule of free, age-appropriate activities held at various locations across the Shire. Age requirements vary depending on the activity.
