Livingstone Shire Council has welcomed the announcement by the Queensland Government that disaster recovery loans for primary producers have been increased to up to $2 million, providing critical support for farmers and landowners affected by the recent Queensland floods.

Mayor Adam Belot said the expanded assistance, delivered through the joint Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA), will give producers more flexibility to repair infrastructure, replace stock and equipment, and get their operations back on track after severe flood impacts.

“On behalf of our community, I’d like to thank the Minister for Local Government and Water and Minister for Fire, Disaster Recovery and Volunteers, the Honourable Ann Leahy, and the Federal Government for recognising the scale of the challenge faced by our producers and increasing the disaster loan cap to $2 million,” Mayor Belot said.

“This announcement will be welcome news to property owners at Mackenzie River and Tartrus in the northern parts of our shire, who suffered significant losses during the event.

“Eligible primary producers will be able to apply for Disaster Recovery Grants up to $75,000 to fund clean-up, repairs and resupply.

“Having met with landowners in mid-February to hear firsthand how they were impacted, I know how important this support will be as they work to rebuild.

“Our visits to properties in the northern fringes of our shire were invaluable. It was vital to listen directly to residents about the personal and financial toll the flooding has taken. That insight guided our advocacy and reinforced how crucial this expanded support is,” Mayor Belot added.

Council is encouraging eligible producers to contact Queensland Rural Industry Development Authority (QRIDA) via www.qrida.qld.gov.au or by calling 1800 623 946. for detailed information on how to apply and access the expanded disaster loans and recovery grants.
