Livingstone Shire Council invites the community to a special celebration at the Yeppoon Lagoon on Wednesday 10 December at 4pm where Mayor Adam Belot will present local rugby league star Harry Grant with an honorary Key to Livingstone Shire.
Mayor Adam Belot said the occasion was a chance for the community to come together and acknowledge one of its most admired home-grown talents.
“Harry Grant is not just an outstanding athlete, he’s a product of our community, shaped by the families, coaches and volunteers who supported him from his earliest days playing junior footy with the Yeppoon Seagulls,” Mayor Belot said.
“Harry grew up right here on the Capricorn Coast, attending Farnborough State School and St Brendan’s College, and like so many young locals, spent countless hours on our fields dreaming big. “To see those dreams, turn into a career at the highest level of rugby league is nothing short of inspirational!”
Mayor Belot said Harry’s journey had not been without challenges.
“As a young teen, Harry survived a life-threatening staph infection and later overcame a major leg injury that kept him off the field for two years.
“His determination to come back stronger speaks volumes about his character and resilience.”
He said Harry’s accomplishments since joining the NRL were extraordinary. “From making his debut with the Melbourne Storm in 2018, to now captaining the side, representing Queensland in State of Origin and playing for the Australian Kangaroos, Harry has achieved more in a few short years than many players manage in a lifetime.”
“This year, Harry was appointed captain of the Australian Kangaroos, a role that recognises not only his talent, but his leadership, professionalism and humility.”
Mayor Belot said presenting Harry with the honorary key was a proud moment for both Council and the community.
“This key represents our deep admiration and our gratitude. Harry carries the spirit of the Capricorn Coast with him everywhere he goes, and we couldn’t be prouder to celebrate his achievements back where it all began.”
Mayor Belot encouraged locals of all ages to come along.
“I warmly invite everyone across the region to join us at the Yeppoon Lagoon. Let’s congratulate Harry, celebrate his journey, and show him the support of the community that will always be his home.”
