Council continues direct engagement on future community precinct

Livingstone Shire Council has welcomed the positive and constructive discussions held with key community stakeholders this week as planning continues for the future of Yeppoon’s library, community services and broader community precinct.
Council held two targeted stakeholder engagement sessions this week, with the Yeppoon Show Society and Showgrounds user groups on Wednesday evening, followed by representatives of Community Centre user groups and key stakeholders on Thursday evening.
Both sessions were well attended and provided an opportunity for Council to share the high-level options currently being assessed through the Options Analysis, answer questions and hear directly from the people who use and support these important community facilities.
Mayor Adam Belot said the discussions demonstrated the value of speaking directly with key stakeholders before the options are shared more broadly.
“We know there is a lot of interest in what the future could look like, and these conversations have provided a really valuable opportunity to explain the work Council is undertaking and hear directly from the people who know these facilities and services best,” Mayor Belot said.
“The discussions were positive, constructive and forward-looking, and I thank everyone who took the time to attend and share their views.
“There is clearly a strong connection to these facilities and the services they provide, but there is also genuine excitement about the opportunities that could come from planning modern, fit-for-purpose facilities that can support our growing community into the future.”
Mayor Belot said direct engagement with user groups was an important part of the current planning process.
“Our user groups are at the heart of these facilities, so it is important that we hear directly from them about what works, what doesn't and what they would like to see in the future,” he said.
“These discussions are helping Council better understand the practical considerations as we work through the options.”
Council will continue targeted stakeholder engagement into next week before releasing the high-level options and supporting information to the broader community.
Mayor Belot said the next stage would provide an opportunity for the wider community to understand the work undertaken and contribute to the conversation.
“We are taking the time to have these important conversations first, but we know the broader community is keen to see what is being considered,” Mayor Belot said.
“We will share the information publicly once this targeted engagement is complete and invite the community to ask questions, consider the options and provide feedback.
“So, stay tuned. There is more information coming very soon, and we look forward to continuing this conversation with our broader community.”
