Livingstone Shire Council remains committed to securing public access to Zilzie Beach and Timbers Beach following recent discussions between Mayor Adam Belot and the property developer.

Mayor Belot received a surprise visit from Mr Ding of M&S International Investment Pty Ltd late last week, which he welcomed as a positive opportunity to continue dialogue on an issue of long-standing importance to the community, including potential beach access through the property and the condition of the site.

Mr Ding also followed up with another meeting earlier this week, together with his architect, to discuss a possible vision for the site. While no development application is being lodged at this time and the developer’s intentions are not yet finalised, Mayor Belot said it was encouraging to hear that Mr Ding is now exploring what options may be available.

The meeting builds on previous positive discussions between Council and the developer, which Council has publicly acknowledged as rekindling hope for improved beach access, and better management of the parcel of land, which are important issues for the local residents.

While the recent visits were unplanned, Mayor Belot said it aligned with his ongoing commitment to explore every possible avenue of negotiation to deliver outcomes for the community.

“Any opportunity to speak directly with the developer is valuable,” Mayor Belot said. “I have always said Council will continue to pursue constructive and respectful dialogue to try and achieve access to Zilzie and Timbers Beaches for our community.”

Mayor Belot emphasised that no formal decision or agreement has been reached as a result of the recent meetings.

“At this stage, there has been no change to the current situation,” he said. “These were informal discussions and no commitments were made. However, I welcome the fact that communication channels remain open.”

Council will keep the community informed of any significant developments as discussions continue. In the meantime, Mayor Belot encouraged residents to remain patient and assured them that the issue of beach access remains a priority for Council.

“This is not a simple or quick process,” he said. “But I want the community to know that we are not walking away from this. We will continue to work toward an outcome that allows future generations to enjoy and access these beaches.”
