Council Backs Community-Led Approach for Daniel Park Improvements
Published on 26 November 2025
Livingstone Shire Council has endorsed a Notice of Motion that supports a community-driven approach to future improvements at Daniel Park, while also progressing planning work for potential new shade infrastructure.
At last week’s Council meeting, Councillors resolved to:
a) Request a detailed report outlining costings for the installation of a gazebo at Daniel Park, to be provided for Council’s consideration; and
b) Support the community in establishing a Daniel Park Progress Association Group to help guide locally driven discussions about the park’s needs and priorities.
Mayor Adam Belot said the decision reinforces Council’s commitment to listening to the community and enabling residents to take the lead in shaping their local spaces.
“The formation of a Progress Association will be entirely community-driven, and Council looks forward to engaging with the group and hearing the ideas and feedback that emerge,” Mayor Belot said.
“Daniel Park is a much-loved neighbourhood asset, and this approach ensures the people who use it most can have a strong voice in its future.”
Councillor Andrea Friend, who brought forward the Notice of Motion, said she was pleased to see formal support for a process that empowers residents.
“This motion came directly from conversations with the local community, who are passionate about maintaining and improving Daniel Park,” Cr Friend said.
“A community-led Progress Association will provide a constructive way for residents to collaborate, share ideas, and advocate for what matters most to them.”
Cr Friend said the forthcoming gazebo costings will be an important foundation for broader discussions.
“Once we have clear costings and options, Council will reach out to the group and consult more widely with the Cooee Bay community,” she said. “This will ensure we explore not only the gazebo proposal, but a range of possible shade solutions that best meet the needs of families and park users.”
Further updates will be provided as this work progresses.
