Livingstone Shire Council invites residents to join Australia’s biggest Garage Sale Trail to be held this November.

For 16 years, Australia’s biggest festival of second-hand stuff has delighted bargain hunters and savvy declutterers alike and this year, Council is hosting its own Garage Sale Trail event on Sunday 8th November as part of the waste education and behaviour change campaign.

Mayor Adam Belot said participating in the Garage Sale Trail is a fantastic way for residents to clear out clutter, make some extra cash and celebrate community spirit across the shire.

"We are excited to bring the Garage Sale Trail back to the Shire this year with the Livingstone Pop Up Market to be held at the Capricorn Coast Basketball Courts in Cordingley Street, Yeppoon,” Mayor Belot said.

The Livingstone Pop Up Market will be a great opportunity for locals to make extra cash by selling their unwanted goods while reducing waste going to landfill at the same time!”

“In fact, anyone in the community or a community group can hold their own Garage Sale Trail event as part of the national campaign which runs over two big weekends on 7–8 and 14–15 November,” Mayor Belot said.

Since it launched in 2010, Garage Sale Trail has grown into a massive national movement boasting 134,000 garage sales, 4 million cumulative participants and over 7.2 million items saved from landfill.

Along the way, the program has generated $52 million for local households and community groups, while sparking more than 2 million new neighbourly connections.

How to get involved in Livingstone:

  • Host a stall at the Livingstone Pop Up Market on Sunday 8th November from 8am – 11am: Book a stall here. Options for undercover stalls or sell directly from your car boot. All stalls $10 each. Stall holder fees will be donated to the Capricorn Coast Toy Library. Bookings are essential and stall numbers are strictly limited.
  • Host a sale: Registration is free. Sellers receive tips, promotional materials and more to help make their sale a success.
  • Shop the Trail: An interactive national map is available at here allowing bargain hunters to plot their trail.

“Last year, more than 330,000 Australians participated in the annual event, with the average seller making $761,” Mayor Belot said.

“Council strongly encourages everyone to get involved either as a stallholder at the Livingstone Pop Up Market, a Garage Sale Trail host or a buyer eager to pick up a pre-loved item and give it a great new home.”
