Livingstone Shire Council regularly engages casual staff to support essential services and community operations across the region. Submitting an expression of interest allows Council to contact you when suitable casual opportunities arise. Current casual roles are listed below and may be offered on an as-needed basis throughout the year.

Expression of Interest - Casual Plant Operator/ Labourer

The Role 

Council is seeking to appoint qualified and experienced plant operator/labourers on an ongoing casual basis to join its Urban Operations team.  Candidates will have demonstrated plant operation and labouring experience with a strong commitment to safety practices and will contribute as an effective and positive team member. Your depot is based in Yeppoon however, travel across the Livingstone region will be required as part of the role.

As a Plant Operator/Labourer at Council, you will be undertaking a wide range of plant operation and labouring tasks as part of a multi-disciplined team that is responsible for the construction and maintenance of Council’s infrastructure assets in accordance with recognised standards.

To be considered for this position candidates must meet the mandatory position requirements outlined in the Position Description.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have: 

  • Ability to legally operate a Skid Steer Loader and Excavator; 
  • Hold or have the ability to successfully obtain ‘Load and Unload Plant’ competency; 
  • Construction Industry Induction (White Card); and
  • Possess and maintain a current “MR” class motor vehicle licence.

Expressions of Interest - Casual Gardeners

The Role

Livingstone Shire Council is recruiting experienced casual Gardeners. Gardeners work in small crews and report to a Team Leader, and travel and work throughout the Livingstone region in our parks, gardens, reserves, and road reserves.  Your passion and creativity will enhance the regions streetscapes and beautify our parks for use by our residents and visitors to the region.

Candidates who have worked in a garden environment at resorts, caravan parks, motels and local government are strongly encouraged to apply.

We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate their experience, skills and knowledge in general gardening. If you have formal qualifications in horticulture that’s a bonus! Candidates must have a positive safety mindset and be situationally aware of surroundings. It doesn’t matter what job you are doing; safety is not negotiable.

Gardeners operate large ride on mowers, whippers snippers, chain saws, blowers and other plant and equipment. You will have experience performing general maintenance/labouring tasks which includes spraying irrigation, mulching, planting shrubs and trees, including the application of pesticides to treat plant disease, weed and pest control within the scope of training and product knowledge.

Pre-employment Screening

Preferred candidates will be required to participate in and complete a successful Functional Capacity Evaluation and be willing to be immunised against Hepatitis A&B and Tetanus.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, it is mandatory that you have:

  • Possess and maintain a current motor vehicle drivers licence.
  • Possess or have the ability to obtain a Commercial Operator’s Licence (AC/DC chemical licence).
  • Work in Proximity to Traffic - Awareness Part 1 and Part 2.
  • Construction Industry Induction (White Card).

Successful candidates appointed as a Gardener who do not hold the above requirements will be required to attend and participate in training.

Expression of Interest - Casual Customer Support Officers

The Role

If you are an experienced Customer Support Officer and wish to be considered for future casual administration work at Livingstone Shire Council, we welcome your expression of interest!

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Council has established a pool of Casual Customer Support Officers who provide casual customer support assistance to Council in various locations when the need arise.

To be considered for a Casual Customer Support Officer position at Council, please submit a resume and covering letter (maximum of 2 pages in length) which addresses the three below points:

  1. Experience as first point of contact from customers including:
    • Working in a busy call centre environment;
    • Delivery of face to face counter service; and / or
    • Ability to follow processes and procedures.

Expression of Interest - Casual Cleaner

The Opportunity

Council is looking for experienced cleaners on a casual basis for shifts Monday to Sunday, including public holidays. You will join a dedicated Facilities team who take pride in their community and the work they do, keeping offices, buildings and public amenities clean and presentable for use by employees, members of the community and visitors. Our casual cleaners must be available to support facilities operations and be able to work during periods of high workload, community events, and fill in for employees who are on leave.

The Role

Council is looking for Cleaners who demonstrate a teamwork mindset and think safety with all tasks. Being an effective team member is critical for this role, because working together achieves goals, efficiency, consistency and quality of work.  Whilst you are part of a team, you must be able to work independently and at various locations within the Livingstone region as directed.

Candidates are required be able to perform manual tasks safely and effectively due to the physical demands of the role. Responsibilities includes the safe operation of high pressure cleaners, extendable equipment, vacuum cleaners and safely use chemicals. You must be able to work on your feet for extended periods of time, and capable to lift, carry and move equipment and materials.

This position is responsible for carrying out a broad range of cleaning duties and no two days are the same. Cleaning public amenities may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it is an IMPORTANT job and includes but not limited to, sanitising toilet facilities and sick bays, taps, sinks, door knobs, drinking fountains, windows, and cleaning various elements of vandalism including special cleans and sanitising resulting from acts of vandalism, as well as cobwebbing and mildew control.
