HISTORY

The U3A Railway Technology group has been around for three years.

The current tutor, Mark Hudson, has been coordinating and leading the group throughout its existence.

The group uses a lecture style, with PowerPoint presentation for information, images, and more recently they have learned how to incorporate videos into the presentation in order to make it more entertaining and engaging.

Group Participants

The group is open to any U3A members that would like to attend.

Membership in the U3A (the University of the Third Age) is open to retired people over the age of 50 for a small annual fee. Group meetings are held in the Community Centre's Room B on the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 10am-noon. There is no additional cost for U3A members to participate.

PEOPLE

Usually, 10-12 people attend the monthly meetings. All participants are U3A members, so they are over 50. Currently about a quarter of participants are women. All are welcome.

  • A number of different topics are covered each month, such as details of specific locomotives, the "gauge" of rail tracks, historical train stations and routes, recent developments in train technology, and news related to trains and railways.
