Keppel Coast Camera Club (2nd Tuesdays)

Next date: Tuesday, 10 November 2026 | 08:30 AM to 11:30 AM

• Provide a welcoming and supportive group for people in the area who are keen photographers
• Facilitate sharing among people learning about photography
• Provide a forum for people to share and discuss photographs they have taken
• Allow participants to view and appreciate photos taken by others

HISTORY

The current "incarnation" of the group was started in 2012, but some version of a local camera club has existed for many years.

This group originally met in a church in Yeppoon, but moved to the Community Centre some years ago.

Kevin has coordinated the group since 2014, when the group joined Keppel Coast Arts as an auspiced sub-committee.

DETAILS

The group meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month, from 7-9 pm, in the Community Centre's Room B.

At their meetings on the 2nd Tuesdays, the group has a learning focus, with a monthly theme (e.g. "Out of the Blue", "Packaging", or "Upcycled"). People bring cameras to learn and practise techniques. Some months they go out together on photo-taking excursions.

On the 4th Tuesdays, each participant selects six of their photos on the month's theme, plus six other photos they've taken. These are then shared on the screen, as the photographer talks about them, such as where they were taken and how they fit the theme.

The club's website is: https://keppel-coast-camera-club.weebly.com.

PEOPLE

Eight to twelve people usually attend the gatherings. They have slightly more women than men, but healthy participation by both.

Most of the attendees are older, but they have some young members, and would encourage more to come along.

The group maintains a private Facebook group for communication.

PARTICIPANT QUOTE

"Being in this group has been a healing journey for me. I am a lifelong learner, and I'm learning to take better photos."
