Livingstone Shire Council is proud to welcome the Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) Board to the Capricorn Coast today — marking the first time the State’s peak tourism body has officially visited the region.

The visit follows a formal invitation from Capricorn Enterprise, the region’s recognised Regional Tourism Organisation (RTO), and comes at a time when the Capricorn Coast is experiencing record tourism growth and exciting new opportunities for investment.

Recent figures released by Tourism Research Australia show the Capricorn Coast region, encompassing the Livingstone and Rockhampton local government areas, recorded a 6.8% increase in domestic visitors and a 12.5% increase in international visitors in the year to December 2024 — well above national averages.

Together, visitors spent more than $728 million in the region last year, staying for over 3.1 million nights.

Livingstone Shire Mayor Adam Belot said the TEQ Board’s visit marks an important milestone in the region’s ongoing growth story.

“This visit is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the incredible potential of the Capricorn Coast and to discuss how we can work together to sustainably grow our tourism and events offering,” Mayor Belot said.

“With record visitation and strong population growth, Livingstone is on the cusp of a major transformation, one that will create new jobs, attract investment, and celebrate what makes our region so unique.”

Capricorn Enterprise CEO Mary Carroll said the data confirms the region’s status as one of Queensland’s most exciting growth destinations.

“We’re thrilled to welcome the TEQ Board to our backyard and show them firsthand why the Capricorn Coast is such a standout destination,” Ms Carroll said.

“From our pristine coastline and thriving local economy to our growing event calendar, the opportunities for tourism development here are enormous. We’re particularly keen to discuss the urgent need for additional short-term accommodation to meet increasing visitor demand.”

Mayor Belot said Livingstone Shire Council looked forward to continuing its partnership with Capricorn Enterprise and TEQ to strengthen regional tourism outcomes.

“Our community is proud of its natural beauty and warm hospitality,” he said.

“This visit is about ensuring that the right support and investment are in place to keep pace with our rapid growth and to realise the full tourism potential of the Capricorn Coast.”
