Livingstone Shire LDMG Moves to Stand Up Stage

Published on 14 January 2026

The Livingstone Shire Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) has escalated to the Stand Up stage of disaster management as severe weather associated with Ex-Tropical Cyclone Koji continues to affect Central Queensland.

The move to Stand Up follows yesterday’s Lean Forward decision and indicates that impacts are occurring or imminent. Council and emergency services have activated coordinated operational response arrangements to support community safety across the Shire.

Mayor and LDMG Chair Adam Belot said the escalation highlights the seriousness of the current situation and forecast conditions.

“Moving to Stand Up allows Council’s Disaster Coordination Centre to be fully operational and ensures a coordinated response with relevant agencies to support our communities as conditions evolve,” Mayor Belot said.

“While many of our smaller, rural and remote communities—such as Stanage Bay, Ogmore, Yaamba, and surrounding rural properties—have shown incredible resilience over the years, the current weather event poses significant risks.

“Some areas are already experiencing impacts to communications, and the volume of water moving down the Fitzroy River over the coming week could further impact and isolate communities.

“Our priority remains the safety of all residents. Conditions can change quickly, and we are urging everyone to take warnings seriously and follow all advice from emergency services.”

The Bureau of Meteorology continues to advise ongoing risks of dangerous rainfall, flash flooding, and riverine flooding across coastal and inland catchments.

Mayor Belot urged residents to avoid travel where possible and to stay clear of all floodwaters.

“Do not drive, walk, or ride through floodwater. Even a small amount of moving water can be life-threatening,” he said.

Council will closely with the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, SES, Queensland Police Service, and other agencies to provide assistance and coordinate response activities where required.

The Livingstone Shire LDMG will continue to monitor conditions closely and provide regular updates as the situation develops.

Residents are urged to:

  • Follow all emergency warnings and directions
  • Avoid non-essential travel
  • Stay away from creeks, rivers, and floodwaters – parents, please be vigilant with children around waterways.
  • Monitor official Bureau of Meteorology warnings
  • Stay informed via Council’s Disaster Dashboard: https://disaster.livingstone.qld.gov.au/

For emergency assistance, contact SES on 132 500.
In life-threatening situations, call 000.
