Livingstone Shire Council is calling on residents to nominate someone special in their community who goes above and beyond in their chosen field, as nominations open for the 2026 Australia Day Awards.

For the first time in years, the official Australia Day Awards Ceremony will return to Yeppoon’s Foreshore Amphitheatre stage, held in conjunction with the annual Great Australia Day Beach Party and a Citizenship Ceremony.

Mayor Adam Belot said this new format brings three important civic celebrations together, creating a stronger sense of community, pride, and belonging.

“The Australia Day Awards are a chance to shine a light on the people who make Livingstone Shire such a wonderful place to live,” Mayor Belot said.

“Livingstone is full of passionate, dedicated people who go above and beyond for others, often without seeking any recognition.

“These awards are our chance as a community to say thank you and celebrate their incredible contributions. Whether it's through volunteering, sport, the arts, business, environmental work or supporting others, I strongly encourage everyone to nominate someone who has inspired them or made a positive difference in our Shire.”

Livingstone Australia Day Awards 2026 Advisory Committee Chairperson, Councillor Andrea Friend, said whether it’s a neighbour, a local business, or a young person making a difference, now is the time to recognise and thank them for their efforts.

“Our community is filled with people who quietly go the extra mile to support others and strengthen local spirit,” Cr Friend said.

“The Australia Day Awards are a fantastic opportunity to shine a light on their contributions and let them know their dedication hasn’t gone unnoticed. A simple nomination can be a powerful way to say thank you.”

Advisory Committee Member, Councillor Lance Warcon, said our region is fortunate to have so many community champions making meaningful impact every day.

“Livingstone is rich with talent, passion and community pride—from volunteers and trailblazers to emerging leaders,” Cr Warcon said.

“These awards give every resident the chance to acknowledge the achievements that inspire us and help shape the future of our Shire. I encourage everyone to get involved and put forward a deserving nominee.”

Nominations are now open until midnight on Friday, 12 December 2025, across the following categories:

Citizen of the Year – Recognising an individual’s valuable contribution to the betterment of our Shire.

Young Citizen of the Year – Celebrating young residents (18 years or younger) who have shown exemplary dedication to our community.
