Butterfly Day Returns to Lammermoor Native Gardens!
Published on 29 April 2026
Council is inviting residents of all ages to connect with nature and celebrate the region’s unique biodiversity at the much-loved Butterfly Day, returning to Lammermoor Native Gardens on Sunday, 10 May 2026, from 8:30am to 12pm.
Following the continued success of previous years, this popular community event offers a fun and educational experience designed to highlight the importance of local flora and fauna, while inspiring residents to create thriving habitats in their own backyards.
Mayor Adam Belot said Butterfly Day plays an important role in fostering environmental awareness across the community.
“Livingstone Shire is home to an incredible diversity of native species, and events like Butterfly Day provide a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together, learn, and celebrate the natural environment that surrounds us,” Mayor Belot said.
“We’re proud to support initiatives that not only showcase our region’s unique biodiversity but also empower residents with the knowledge to help protect and enhance it.”
Attendees can enjoy a range of interactive and family-friendly activities throughout the morning, including guided nature walks led by local experts, offering insights into native plants, butterflies, and the broader ecosystem.
Deputy Mayor and Environment and Development Portfolio Co-Lead, Councillor Pat Eastwood, said the event is designed to be both engaging and educational.
“Butterfly Day continues to grow as a highlight on the community calendar and is a fantastic way to bring the community together while learning about the important role butterflies and native species play in our ecosystem,” Cr Eastwood said.
“From hands-on activities for children to informative presentations from local environmental groups, there is something for everyone to enjoy and take away.
“Children will have the opportunity to get up close with nature through butterfly netting and observation activities, as well as participate in arts, crafts, drawing and colouring sessions.”
A special Mother’s Day-themed activity is also being planned in collaboration with Council’s nursery team.
The event will also feature educational presentations from local community groups, sharing their knowledge on butterfly behaviour, native fauna, and the importance of maintaining healthy ecosystems.
Visitors can relax and enjoy a light morning tea, with refreshments including butterfly-themed treats, tea, coffee, and juice available.
Council encourages attendees to wear sun-safe clothing, enclosed shoes, and bring a water bottle.
