Livingstone Shire Council and community members came together today to celebrate Council’s ongoing commitment to building accessible and inclusive communities.

As part of Council’s Community Plan 2030, Council continues to focus on creating diverse and inclusive opportunities that encourage participation for all residents.

The installation of a new universal picnic table at the Yeppoon Skate Park is a practical example of this commitment.

Recreation and Culture Portfolio Co-Lead Councillor Andrea Friend said the project demonstrates how small but thoughtful changes can make a meaningful difference.

“For some, this may appear to be just another picnic table, but for Council it represents real progress in creating a more inclusive community,” Cr Friend said.

“By incorporating universal design into our spaces, we are helping ensure that people of all abilities can come together and enjoy the same experiences.”

Council meets regularly with Accessibility Capricornia to discuss access and inclusion improvements across the Shire.

These conversations help ensure Council is listening to the genuine needs of people with disability, their carers, and families.

This ongoing engagement not only informs appropriate upgrades to existing infrastructure but also guides planning for future projects.

“Accessibility is not just about infrastructure—it’s about listening, learning, and working with our community to create opportunities where everyone feels they belong,” Cr Friend said.

All residents are encouraged to join Accessibility Capricornia and work alongside Council to ensure everyone can access and enjoy public spaces across the Shire.
