The Role:

An exciting opportunity is available for a Technical Officer – Environment and Approvals to join Council’s Engineering Services team. This role provides specialist technical support to ensure infrastructure projects comply with environmental, planning and statutory approval requirements across State, Federal and Local Government frameworks.

Working closely with engineers, project managers and external stakeholders, you will support infrastructure projects from planning through to delivery, with a strong focus on environmentally responsible and compliant outcomes.

About You:

You are a technically capable professional with demonstrated experience navigating approval pathways for infrastructure works in a complex regulatory environment. You bring strong environmental assessment skills, a practical and solutions‑focused approach, and the ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders while delivering high‑quality outcomes.

In this role, you will:

  • Identify statutory obligations and determine appropriate approval pathways for infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare, coordinate and lodge permits, development applications and associated documentation.
  • Review technical documentation, designs and drawings to ensure compliance with approval conditions.
  • Undertake site inspections, investigations and field‑based environmental assessments, including coastal zone works.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams, government agencies, consultants and contractors to support compliant project delivery.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Significant demonstrated experience in the approval processes for Infrastructure Works;
  • Sound understanding of legislation associated with approvals and environmental protection; and
  • Possess and maintain a current motor vehicle drivers licence.
