The Role
Livingstone Shire Council is seeking a passionate and experienced professional to lead the delivery of sustainability and natural resource management outcomes across the region.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping a sustainable future for our community by driving strategic initiatives, leading environmental programs, and providing expert advice within a dynamic local government environment. You will work across Council to ensure strong alignment with legislative requirements, corporate priorities, and long-term environmental outcomes
What You Will Do
- Lead and coordinate sustainability functions across Council to ensure compliance with legislation and alignment with strategic priorities.
- Deliver sustainability programs and projects, including initiatives such as Reef Guardian and climate resilience programs.
- Provide expert advice on sustainability matters, including development proposals, planning schemes, and environmental management.
- Develop and implement sustainability strategies, operational plans, and continuous improvement initiatives, including carbon reduction opportunities.
- Engage with stakeholders and the community to promote sustainability awareness and behavioural change.
- Support and build a high-performing team, ensuring effective project delivery and organisational outcomes.
What You Will Bring
You are a motivated and knowledgeable sustainability professional with strong technical and stakeholder engagement capability.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Strong expertise in sustainability, environmental management, legislation, and climate change (including carbon accounting).
- Experience developing and delivering sustainability strategies, policies, and programs within a planning or local government context.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders and deliver clear, professional advice.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical skills, including experience with relevant systems (e.g. GIS, corporate systems, MS Office).
- Demonstrated leadership capability, including building and supporting high-performing teams.
Mandatory requirements:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in environmental science, sustainability, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Current Queensland “C” Class Driver Licence.
