The Role

Livingstone Shire Council is seeking a passionate and experienced professional to lead the delivery of sustainability and natural resource management outcomes across the region.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping a sustainable future for our community by driving strategic initiatives, leading environmental programs, and providing expert advice within a dynamic local government environment. You will work across Council to ensure strong alignment with legislative requirements, corporate priorities, and long-term environmental outcomes

What You Will Do

  1. Lead and coordinate sustainability functions across Council to ensure compliance with legislation and alignment with strategic priorities.
  2. Deliver sustainability programs and projects, including initiatives such as Reef Guardian and climate resilience programs.
  3. Provide expert advice on sustainability matters, including development proposals, planning schemes, and environmental management.
  4. Develop and implement sustainability strategies, operational plans, and continuous improvement initiatives, including carbon reduction opportunities.
  5. Engage with stakeholders and the community to promote sustainability awareness and behavioural change.
  6. Support and build a high-performing team, ensuring effective project delivery and organisational outcomes.

What You Will Bring

You are a motivated and knowledgeable sustainability professional with strong technical and stakeholder engagement capability.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Strong expertise in sustainability, environmental management, legislation, and climate change (including carbon accounting).
  • Experience developing and delivering sustainability strategies, policies, and programs within a planning or local government context.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders and deliver clear, professional advice.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical skills, including experience with relevant systems (e.g. GIS, corporate systems, MS Office).
  • Demonstrated leadership capability, including building and supporting high-performing teams.

Mandatory requirements:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in environmental science, sustainability, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Current Queensland “C” Class Driver Licence.
