The Principal Business Improvement & Innovation plays a critical role in shaping how work gets done across Council. This role leads the design and improvement of systems, processes and digital ways of working that directly influence employee experience, organisational performance and service delivery to the community. By setting clear direction, partnering with leaders and embedding better ways of working, this role turns complexity into clarity and ensures Council’s systems genuinely support people to do their best work, now and into the future.

What you will doing:

In this role you will:
- Lead the design, implementation and continuous improvement of organisational systems, processes and frameworks
- Drive the adoption and optimisation of digital tools that support effective and efficient ways of working
- Partner closely with IT and business leaders to align operational needs with practical, fit-for-purpose process and digital solutions
- Champion change through communication, co‑design, capability building and hands-on implementation
- Build organisational capability by empowering employees with the right tools, guidance and learning
- Use data, insights and feedback to measure impact, refine solutions and guide future improvement
- Lead and support a high‑performing team while role modelling Council values and behaviours
What you will bring:
You are a strategic, people‑centred leader who thrives in complex environments and enjoys turning ideas into practical, scalable ways of working. You bring:
- Proven experience leading systems or process improvement initiatives that deliver real organisational impact
- Strong people and project leadership skills, with the ability to influence across all levels
- High digital literacy, with confidence championing new technologies and modern ways of working
- Practical experience applying design thinking or human‑centred design approaches to solve real business problems
- The ability to balance big picture thinking with the delivery of tangible, measurable outcomes
- Confidence facilitating workshops, co‑design sessions and change initiatives that engage and bring people along
Bonus points for:
- Tertiary qualification in Business, Design Thinking, Service Design, Process Improvement or similar
- Experience managing employees and work programs
- Experience in local government or complex public sector environments
