Livingstone Shire residents are invited to roll up their sleeves and make a lasting difference to the local environment as part of this year’s National Tree Day.

Council is encouraging the community to come together for a special planting event on Sunday 26 July 2026 at Emily Morgan Park, located at the southern end of Mulambin Beach, joining thousands of Australians taking part in the country’s largest community tree-planting and nature care event.

Set against the stunning coastal backdrop of Mulambin Beach, the event will focus on enhancing local vegetation and improving the health of the foreshore environment, helping to protect the coastline while supporting native wildlife habitat.

First launched by Planet Ark in 1996, National Tree Day has grown into a nationwide movement, with more than 28 million trees planted and five million volunteers taking part over the past 30 years.

Mayor Adam Belot said the event was a fantastic opportunity for the community to connect with nature while contributing to a greener, healthier future.

“National Tree Day is about more than planting trees, it’s about strengthening our connection to the environment and each other,” Mayor Belot said.

“By planting at Emily Morgan Park, we’re not only improving a much-loved local coastal area, but also helping to build resilience in our natural environment for generations to come.

“Every tree planted helps improve biodiversity, provides habitat for wildlife, and contributes to a healthier and more resilient natural environment for future generations.

“This is a great way for families, schools, community groups and individuals to get involved, learn more about our local ecosystems, and leave a positive legacy for the region.”

Participants are encouraged to wear enclosed shoes, sun-safe clothing and bring a water bottle. Gloves and planting equipment will be provided.

National Tree Day will be held across Australia on Sunday 26 July 2026, with communities encouraged to host or join local planting events.

Council encourages anyone interested in participating to register via the official National Tree Day website.
