Livingstone Shire residents have shared their thoughts on what makes the region a great place to live, and what could make it even better, through Council’s Livingstone Views 2025 survey.

More than 800 residents took part in the survey, which provides a snapshot of local liveability and helps Council understand community values, experiences, and aspirations for the future.

Residents rated Livingstone’s overall liveability at 60.0 out of 100, above the Central Queensland average of 57.2, highlighting that most people see the Shire as a good place to live.

The findings show that feeling safe, access to the natural environment, and a strong sense of community are the top factors contributing to local quality of life.

However, residents also identified opportunities for improvement in areas such as healthcare access, affordable housing, transport, and leisure options.

Mayor Adam Belot said the survey provides valuable insights that will guide Council’s future planning and advocacy.

“Our residents consistently tell us that what they value most about Livingstone is our safe communities and our stunning natural environment,” Mayor Belot said.

“These results confirm that while we’re getting many things right, there’s also more work to do to ensure everyone can continue to enjoy a great quality of life here, with better access to health care, housing choice, and transport.

“We’ll use this data to advocate for improved services and to shape projects that reflect what our community has told us matters most.”

The survey also revealed strong support for carefully managed growth, with seven in ten residents wanting to see the Shire grow ‘slowly and carefully’ alongside appropriate infrastructure and services, and only 12% of people wanted the community to remain as is.

“Our community has made it clear they value slow growth that protects the lifestyle we all enjoy,” Mayor Adam Belot said.

“At the same time, Livingstone is one of the fastest-growing areas in regional Queensland, and slow growth simply isn’t an option, but we can grow carefully and well planned.

“We can’t stop people from moving here, but we can choose how we plan for it.

“The feedback from this survey will help us make sure we’re delivering the right infrastructure, services, and amenities to keep pace with that growth while protecting what makes our region special”.

Mayor Belot said the results would directly inform Council’s ongoing planning and advocacy, including work under the Blueprint Livingstone framework and future infrastructure strategies.

“This evidence highlights the need to plan responsibly, to manage growth in a way that supports jobs, housing, and services without losing the character of our towns and coastal communities,” he said.

“It’s about shaping growth, not resisting it.”
