Let’s Talk About Desexing – A Program for Local Pets
Published on 01 October 2025
Livingstone Shire Council is pleased to announce the continuation of its successful animal welfare initiative, with a new round of discounted desexing vouchers available for eligible local pet owners.
The program, running from 1 October 2025 until 1 May 2026, has been made possible through $20,000 in Council funding and aims to support responsible pet ownership while reducing the number of unwanted litters across the region.
Development and Environment portfolio Co-Chair Councillor Pat Eastwood said the desexing voucher initiative continues to demonstrate Council’s commitment to animal welfare.
“We know how much pets mean to local families, and this program provides direct, practical support to help ensure healthier pets, responsible ownership, and fewer strays in our community,” Cr Eastwood said.
Council encourages residents to apply early, as funding is limited and vouchers will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Through the scheme, local residents can access vouchers valued at:
- $50 for cats
- $150 for dogs
To be eligible, pets must already be microchipped and registered with Livingstone Shire Council. Residents are encouraged to check with their preferred veterinary clinic before applying, as vouchers must be redeemed within one month of issue.
Applications can be made via Council’s online form, which will be updated where necessary to support this latest round of the program.
