Fig Tree Gallery reaping sweet rewards

First time exhibitors and regular visitors are reaping sweet rewards as the Fig Tree Gallery delivers a jam-packed calendar of exhibitions that will keep the community coming back for more.

Recreation and Culture Portfolio Co-Lead Councillor Andrea Friend said it was an exciting time for the Gallery with the announcement of a fully booked exhibition calendar to the end of 2027.

“Since Keppel Coast Arts took on the management of the Gallery, we have seen the doors open to welcome the community into a range of exhibitions including pottery, photography, textile, watercolour, acrylics and oils,” Cr Friend said.

“Gallery managers, Keppel Coast Arts, ensure each and every exhibition is a success for both the artist and the community thanks to a dedicated and passionate team of staff and volunteers.”

According to Leanne Smith, President of Keppel Coast Arts, the gallery has welcomed two local artists to the team this year to assist with the day-to-day administration tasks in the gallery.

“Linda Weedon and Mandy Dollery bring years of experience and skills in curating, promoting, managing exhibitions, keeping the website current and working with the volunteers to keep the gallery running smoothly. They are a welcome addition to the gallery team”, Leanne said.

“We also value the skills of Michelle Taranto, who looks after our social media content for each exhibition and supports the artists in promoting their work online.”

Several first-time exhibitors, supported by the Keppel Cost Arts team, have taken the big step to hold an exhibition of their work.

According to Recreation and Culture Portfolio Co-Lead Councillor Lance Warcon, visiting artists value the curatorial support, sales support and gallery sitting support from our wonderful volunteers - our FIGs (Friends In the Gallery) team.

“Visitors regularly comment on the quality of the work displayed and enjoy the diversity of the exhibitions, which is rewarding for everyone who is part of the gallery team,” Cr Warcon said.

The 2027 exhibition calendar is fully booked, and Keppel Coast Arts are currently accepting expressions of interest for 2028. New FIGs are also welcome to join the volunteer gallery sitting team.
