Livingstone Shire Council is pleased to announce the reopening of the Emu Park Waste Transfer Station, following the completion of a $650,000 upgrade project designed to improve the facility’s functionality, efficiency, and safety.

The four-month project, solely funded through Council’s Capital Works Program, has delivered a modernised, purpose-built facility that will better serve the needs of residents both now and into the future.

Mayor Adam Belot thanked residents for their patience during the construction works.

“Council appreciates the community’s understanding throughout the construction period, and is delighted to now deliver a significantly improved facility for Emu Park and surrounding areas,” Mayor Belot said.

“The upgrades not only improve the safety and efficiency of waste management operations but also enhance the overall experience for residents visiting the site.”

The contract for the works was awarded to local company 1OneGroup Pty Ltd, with directors Garrett Heenan and Jamie Garner leading a team of Yeppoon-based workers to deliver the project.

Mr Heenan said they were very pleased to work in partnership with Council on this important piece of infrastructure for the community.

“We’ve incorporated durable, innovative materials that will provide long-term benefits in terms of security, insulation, and waterproofing, ensuring the facility remains fit for purpose well into the future,” Mr Heenan said.

“It was a pleasure working with the Council team that was directly involved in this particular project and felt like a really collaborative effort.

“We believe there are enough capable trades in Livingstone Shire to build the infrastructure required to keep up with the growth demand that the region is currently facing, and 1OneGroup is going to be at the forefront of that and keep the work local.”

Council’s Major Project team said this upgrade is a testament to the positive collaboration between Council and 1OneGroup, whose team worked with professionalism and pride to deliver an outstanding community facility.
