Livingstone Shire Council is responding to growing community concerns about traffic congestion, endorsing a third priority project, Chandler Road East, for submission under the State Government’s Residential Activation Fund (RAF) Round 2.

Mayor Adam Belot said the decision reflects clear feedback from residents, particularly in Taroomball, where traffic pressures are already being felt.

“Council has heard the community’s concerns around congestion, safety and increasing ‘rat running’ through local streets,” Mayor Belot said.

“While addressing the housing shortage, it is also critical to address the impacts of increasing traffic.”

Council acknowledged that ongoing development, including impact assessable applications, is contributing to increased traffic volumes across the region.

“Growth is happening, and residents are feeling it on the road network,” Mayor Belot said.

“This project will support additional housing, help ease congestion, improve safety, and restore amenity for local communities.”

Council’s RAF Round 2 priorities are:

  • Priority 1: Taroomball Residential Precinct – Trunk Roads
  • Priority 2: Northern Corridor (Parkhurst to The Caves) Infrastructure Planning
  • Priority 3: Chandler Road East

Mayor Belot said bringing Chandler Road East forward reflects the urgency of current traffic conditions.

“This was a future project, but the need is now,” he said.

“If funded, we can deliver the full Chandler Road corridor within three years—providing real traffic relief while supporting continued growth.”
