Livingstone Shire Council is inviting the community to have its say on the future of Yeppoon’s library and community facilities, with consultation now open as part of Council’s long-term planning for a future precinct.

Earlier this year, Council committed to exploring the opportunity to deliver a new civic precinct in the Yeppoon town centre, a project that could one day bring together Council chambers, customer service, library services and community facilities in one central location. The decision marked the beginning of a strategic planning process, with no decisions yet made about future development.

Mayor Adam Belot said the next step in that process is understanding what the community needs from these spaces as the region continues to grow.

“Planning for the future starts with listening to our community,” Mayor Belot said.

“We know our region is growing rapidly, and it’s important that the spaces where people connect, learn and access services continue to meet those changing needs.

“This consultation is about understanding how our residents use our current community facilities, what’s working well, and what improvements or new opportunities they would like to see into the future.”

Council’s existing community facilities have reached the end of their functional life. The planning process will investigate how future needs could be better coordinated through improving accessibility, functionality and long-term value for the community.

The consultation forms part of Council’s broader strategic planning under Blueprint Livingstone and aligns with Council’s recently adopted Social Infrastructure Planning and Investment Policy, which is helping guide how community spaces and services are planned as the region evolves.

Mayor Belot said community input will play a critical role in shaping the needs analysis and informing any future concept planning.

“We’re not asking the community to comment on a design or a proposal at this stage,” he said.

“This is about understanding what our community values most, whether that’s library services, community meeting spaces, gathering places, improved accessibility, or how we create spaces that strengthen connection and belonging.”

Residents are encouraged to participate in the consultation by completing the online survey or visiting Council’s engagement portal.

Council will use the feedback gathered to inform the next stage of planning and help shape the future of community infrastructure in Yeppoon for generations to come.

Consultation is now open and will remain open until Sunday 12 July 2026
