The Role:
Council are seeking a motivated and knowledgeable Pest Management Officer to join our Natural Resources Management team.
Reporting to the Coordinator Natural Resources Management, this role plays a vital part in protecting the region’s environmental, agricultural and community assets through the implementation of pest management programs and compliance activities.
You will work collaboratively with landholders, community members and stakeholders to manage restricted invasive plants and animals, deliver targeted pest control initiatives, and support Council’s obligations under the Biosecurity Act 2014 and Local Laws.
In this role, you will:
- Deliver pest management programs targeting restricted invasive plants and animals across the region.
- Conduct inspections, investigations and compliance activities in accordance with the Biosecurity Act 2014 and Council Local Laws.
- Provide expert advice and education to landholders, community groups and stakeholders on pest management practices.
- Undertake chemical application and pest control activities in accordance with legislative and safety requirements.
- Monitor, record and report on pest management activities using Council systems and digital technologies.
- Assist in developing and implementing strategic pest management initiatives and awareness programs.
- Build strong working relationships with government agencies, industry groups and community stakeholders.
- Contribute to environmental stewardship outcomes that support the protection of Livingstone Shire’s natural resources.
About You:
You are passionate about environmental management and committed to achieving positive outcomes for the community and natural environment. You have strong technical knowledge in pest management, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
You will bring:
- Certificate IV or equivalent qualification in pest management, conservation and land management, environmental health, or a related field, and/or substantial relevant industry experience.
- Demonstrated experience in the identification, treatment and control of restricted invasive plants and animals.
- Strong understanding of the Biosecurity Act 2014, chemical handling requirements, and relevant legislation.
- Experience in the safe use, storage and application of agricultural chemicals.
- Well-developed communication, customer service and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience using Microsoft Office applications and digital record management systems.
- Commercial Operators Licence (ACDC) and Pest Management Technicians Licence (fumigation), or the ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
- Substance Authority for Fluoroacetic Acid and Para-aminopropiophenone, or the ability to obtain.
- Current C Class Driver Licence.
