Apprentice Plumber (3474) – Temporary Full Time (4 years)

The Role

As an Apprentice Plumber, you’ll gain hands-on experience in a commercial plumbing environment along with formal training to become a fully qualified Plumber and Drainer. You’ll work alongside experienced tradespersons and learn to build, maintain, and repair vital water and wastewater infrastructure that keeps our community running.

What you’ll need to succeed as an Apprentice Plumber at Council?

  • Commitment to safety in the workplace.
  • Commitment to learn and complete the apprenticeship.
  • Sound level of numeracy and literacy skills (completion of at least Year 10 desired).
  • Possess and maintain a current provisional or open motor vehicle driver licence (or ability to obtain provisional licence once eligible).

With support of the Skilling Queenslanders for Work – First Start Program Government funding Council is offering this apprenticeship. To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must:

  • Be aged 15 years or older and no longer at school (at time of commencement of apprenticeship or traineeship).
  • Be able to meet citizenship, residency and visa requirements to undertake an apprenticeship or traineeship.
  • Not currently registered as an apprentice or trainee with another employer.
  • Not have a qualification that is equal to or higher than the qualification you would receive by undertaking Council’s apprenticeship or traineeship.
  • Hold a Certificate III or higher in an unrelated field completed within the last 7 years (unless obtained during high school).

Truck Driver/Labourer (3008)

The Role

This position is part of a multi-disciplined team responsible for the construction and maintenance of Council’s infrastructure assets. This hands-on role involves operating and maintaining trucks exceeding 15 tonnes GVM, and performing general labouring duties which includes pipe laying, concreting and general maintenance and safety operating small machinery and hand tools ensuring safe work practices are followed at all times.

We are seeking a dedicated Truck Driver/Labourer who is passionate about contributing to their local community and values teamwork, safety, collaboration, and service to the community. Join our Urban Operations team and help maintain and improve essential infrastructure across the Capricorn region.

For this role, candidates must successfully complete in a Functional Capacity Evaluation and be willing to be vaccinated against Hepatitis A&B and Tetanus. 

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A current MR Class driver licence and Construction Industry Induction (White Card);
  • Experience in truck operation and civil construction tasks;
  • Strong commitment to safety and teamwork;
  • Ability to read and follow instructions, complete basic reports, and communicate effectively; and
  • Willingness to work in outdoor environments and undertake physically demanding tasks.

Infrastructure Planning Engineer - Transport (2957)

The Role

As an Infrastructure Transport Engineer, you will play a key role in planning, investigating, and delivering transport infrastructure projects across our shire. Your work will cover a variety of projects including roads, cycleways, footpaths, and public transport infrastructure, directly supporting our Council’s strategic goals.

Reporting to the Principal Transport Engineer, the key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Conducting infrastructure investigations, planning, research, and analysis for municipal transport projects.
  • Providing professional civil engineering advice to Council, senior management, and stakeholders.
  • Assisting in preparing forward works programs and financial plans for infrastructure upgrades and expansions.
  • Preparing detailed engineering reports and reviewing designs and drawings.

The Role

Reporting to the Manager Development & Environment, you’ll oversee the Development Assessment team, guiding complex planning matters and ensuring processes are aligned with Council’s strategic goals. You will provide expert planning advice, represent Council in legal and compliance matters, and drive continuous improvement across systems and service delivery.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Leading, mentoring, and developing the Development Assessment team.

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in Urban & Regional Planning (or related field) and/or extensive experience in statutory planning.
  • Proven leadership experience in a local government or regulatory planning environment.
  • Strong knowledge of planning legislation, policy, and development assessment processes.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex matters in political, legal, and community-facing contexts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare high-quality reports and represent Council confidently.

Your depot is based in Yeppoon however, travel across the Livingstone region will be required as part of the role.

The Role

Livingstone Shire Council is recruiting experienced casual Gardeners. Gardeners work in small crews and report to a Team Leader, and travel and work throughout the Livingstone region in our parks, gardens, reserves, and road reserves.  Your passion and creativity will enhance the regions streetscapes and beautify our parks for use by our residents and visitors to the region.

  • Candidates who have worked in a garden environment at resorts, caravan parks, motels and local government are strongly encouraged to apply.

We are looking for candidates with 2 years or more experience, skills and knowledge in general gardening. If you have formal qualifications in horticulture that’s a bonus! Candidates must have a positive safety mindset and be situationally aware of surroundings. It doesn’t matter what job you are doing; safety is not negotiable.

Gardeners operate large ride on mowers, whippers snippers, chain saws, blowers and other plant and equipment. You will have experience performing general maintenance/labouring tasks which includes spraying irrigation, mulching, planting shrubs and trees, including the application of pesticides to treat plant disease, weed and pest control within the scope of training and product knowledge.

Pre-employment Screening

Preferred candidates will be required to participate in and complete a successful Functional Capacity Evaluation and be willing to be immunised against Hepatitis A&B and Tetanus.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, it is mandatory that you have:

  • Two (2) years or more experience working as a Gardener/Horticulturist;

Expression of Interest - Weekend Amenities Cleaner

The Role

Council is looking for experienced amenities cleaners to work weekend shifts. You will be engaged on a casual basis and will join a dedicated Facilities Services team who take pride in their community and the work they do, keeping public amenities clean and presentable for use by members of the community and visitors. There may be opportunities to work additional days/hours during the week to cover periods of leave.

This position is responsible for carrying out a broad range of cleaning duties and no two days are the same. Cleaning public amenities includes but not limited to, sanitising toilet facilities and sick bays, taps, sinks, door knobs, drinking fountains, windows, and cleaning various elements of vandalism including special cleans and sanitising resulting from acts of vandalism, as well as cobwebbing and mildew control.

Candidates must have a safety mindset and think safety with all tasks, be customer centric, reliable, have attention to detail, be well presented and physically fit as this role requires manual lifting and the safe operation of high pressure cleaners, extendable equipment, vacuum cleaners and safely use chemicals.

Cleaners have access to a job van and the van must be maintain the in a clean and tidy condition to allow for safe transport of people, products and materials to job sites. You will have the ability to work independently and at various locations within the Livingstone region as required.

Weekend Shifts

Amenities Run: 6.00 am - 10.00 am

Lagoon: 6.00 am - 11.00 am

Lagoon: 12.00 pm - 4.00 pm
