School holiday programme jam-packed with activities across the Shire!

Back
Following an overwhelmingly positive response for the June/July school holiday programme, Council is delivering another smorgasbord of activities over the coming weeks!

From a cricket colour blast, bike education day, to outdoor movies and markets, to adventure sports, and bush survival skill workshops, these are just some of the exciting events on offer starting from 17 September to 3 October.

Kicking off the weekend of 18 September with a Fantasy Festival and Sunset Sessions on the Yeppoon Foreshore, there are over 20 events and activities available to choose from for young people of all ages.

Councillor Pat Eastwood, Portfolio Holder of Healthy and Inclusive Community said the last school holiday programme was a huge success, with hundreds of local kids turning up to take part in a wide variety of engaging and educational activities.

“It’s so important that we as a community provide the youth with opportunities to interact with one another in a fun and safe environment and give them the ability to learn new skills and build on their self-development and confidence,” Cr Eastwood said.

“One of the new additions to this programme is the bike education events over two days at Merv Anderson Park, which aim to increase awareness of bicycle safety by providing the fundamental knowledge and understanding of road rules.

“There will also be helmet decorating activities offering another element to this event.

“One of the most well-attended events last season was the laser skirmish, high ropes, and rock wall climbing day at Yeppoon PCYC, which will return again this month, teaching kids all about teamwork while being active.

“A number of Rocky Instincts survival skills workshops will also return, being hosted at different localities including Cawarral and Mulambin throughout the two-week period.

“Come-and-Try days also form part of the programme, with nippers, basketball, and pickleball all on offer.

“The youth are tomorrow’s leaders and I commend the Council staff and all the local groups and organisations that are hosting these activities for offering young people worthwhile and fun activities these school holidays.

“I strongly encourage parents and carers to jump online and register their attendance, as spots will be limited.”
