LIVINGSTONE
Shire Council’s long-waited Town Planning Scheme is
now in it’s final phase of State interest checks and
is expected to be adopted and gazetted within the next
three months.
Mayor
Bill Ludwig said the ‘landmark’ document is a
comprehensive blueprint for the Shire’s development
through the next eight to ten years and also includes
projections with strategic overlays that in some areas
of planning look twenty years ahead and beyond.
"This
will be a living document that will effectively guide
Council decision making through the next challenging
decade of projected strong growth in Livingstone
Shire," Councillor Ludwig said.
Councillor
Ludwig commended LSC’s planners, the community and all
those involved in bringing the new Town Planning Scheme
together.
"Bringing
this vital document together has involved an
extraordinary effort. It has involved the most intensive
community and stakeholder consultation processes ever
undertaken with multiple workshops conducted throughout
the Shire over the past three years," Cr Ludwig
said.
Livingstone
Chief Executive Officer Peter Franks said the final
document was extremely detailed and comprehensive and
though officially still in draft form can be viewed on
Council’s website or in the Shire’s libraries.
"Once
the State Government clears its interests from the final
changes, it will be gazetted as quickly as
practical," Mr Franks said.
Council’s
strategic planner Ms Melissa Simpson said that while the
final document was very comprehensive it was very much a
‘living’ document and not ‘cast in stone’.
"Planning
schemes can be amended at any time to respond to
community needs however any subsequent changes proposed
after final adoption of the scheme would have to be
advertised for further public comment," Ms Simpson
said.
