Improvements have been made to
the amenities block and the sound stage "The verandah" is well
utilised.
Cawarral School of Arts
Association Inc had a big year in ’99 with the completion in April of
the renovations and extensions to the Cawarral Community Hall which is
used for Queensland Wildlife Hospital discos, highland dance classes,
birthday parties and social functions.
Once a month on a Sunday,
Cawarral resident Sylvia McDonald runs a Music in the Hall afternoon,
performing if they wish.
Regional Arts Development
Funding has enabled the start of junior drama classes.
The Coowonga Folk Club has
performed every second month in ’99 at the Recreation grounds and
provided diverse entertainment in the form of jazz, grunge, Irish, folk,
contemporary and classical music by groups and individual performers.
Among these performances have
been bush poets, children’s poetry readings and Come Ye All segments
which cater to all sections of the community.
The America’s Cup Dry land
Boat Racing day was a huge success.
The Cawarral State School
celebrated 125 years of providing quality education to the residents of
Cawarral and surrounding districts in July 1999 with close to 1,000
people attending.
A rock cairn containing a time
capsule was unveiled during the formal ceremony to be opened in 25 years
time.
A considerable amount of time
has been dedicated to the development of facilities plans for this year
with a new modular building being constructed along with a new
pre-school facility, also air-conditioning to the school library and a
double classroom space.
