  1. Felting Techniques :: Art Workshop with Anni Simmons at The Mill Gallery

    20 February, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM @ The Mill Gallery

    Felting has become increasingly popular recently. This workshop will cover both standard wet felting and dry (needle) felting techniques. Participants will take home an individualised piece of creative felted cloth. In the morning, participants will wet felt an approximately 30cm x 30cm piece of individualised fabric using prefelts, wool rovings, material scraps, Angelina filaments, yarn pieces and silk fibres. In the afternoon, the dried fabric can be embellished using various techniques including free motion sewing, needle felting, beading and hand stitching. This embellished piece can be made into a wallet, wall hanging, glasses case, book cover or other imaginative piece.

  2. The Spirit of Anzac Playwriting Workshop

    Calling Livingstone Shire writers and actors. Have you an idea for a short play with the Spirit of Anzac theme? Sydney based scriptwriter/theatre director Suzanne Hauser will assist at her intensive workshop on her follow-up visit to Yeppoon. This workshop offers the opportunity for writers to develop their ideas into a short play with an industry professional. On Saturday, workshop focus will be on playwriting skills and one on one discussions between writers and Suzanne. On Sunday afternoon, actors will do moved readings of the draft scripts to assist the writers in development of their scripts to performance level. Please email draft script to arts@livingstone.qld.gov.au by Friday 19 February so Suzanne Hauser, as dramaturg, can assess each script before the workshop and provide her professional feedback and comments during the workshop. Applicants must meet eligibility criteria, be operating out of Livingstone Shire Council's Local Government Area and providing services or activities that benefit residents and improve overall community wellbeing.

  8. Central Queensland Pipes & Drums Inc. Band Information Open Day

    The Central Queensland Pipes & Drums Inc. is holding an information open day at their band hall for people interested in learning to play the Bagpipes or Drums. New and former players are most welcome to attend. There is no requirement to be able to read music, all tuition is free of charge and band uniform is provided. An instrument can be learnt at any age not necessarily in their youth. Practice is held on a Wednesday night, band learners 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm and full band practice 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm The band’s repertoire is playing traditional Scottish and well known favourite tunes.

  5. Book Launch: The Day Marcia Came to Town

    “There’s only one thing Lachlan likes better than Grandma’s Sunday dinners… and that’s Grandad’s bedtime stories. And tonight’s story is the best one yet. Tonight’s story is true!” The Day Marcia Came to Town, written by Lincoln Bertoli and illustrated by Jet James, tells the story of Cyclone Marcia and the impact she had on Livingstone Shire, and indeed all of Central Queensland when she struck the coast in February 2015. It has been written for children, aged from Prep to Grade 4, and the official launch will coincide with the 12-month anniversary of Cyclone Marcia. Delve inside this beautiful picture book with author and illustrator and share a light morning tea.
